We are very pleased to announce that Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) has joined GLTN as part of the International Training/Research Institutions Cluster!
This GLTN membership was formalized 12th November 2020 after NUST officially signed the GLTN Partners’ Charter at a ceremony officiated by Dr. Andrew Niikondo, Acting Vice Chancellor and witnessed by Prof Katjiua, Head of Department – Land and Property Sciences and Prof Uchendu Chigbu, Associate Professor Land Administration. This membership now makes NUST the first African university to join the Global Land Tool Network, whose partners include international rural and urban civil society organizations, research and training institutions, bilateral and multilateral organizations, and international professional bodies.
Established in 1996 and formerly known as Polytechnic of Namibia until 2015, the Namibia University of Science and Technology has had a long history dating back to the early 80s. Today, the University is ranked as the best higher education institution in Namibia, since 2002 (PMR Africa), most innovative institution /or organisation in Namibia (PMR Africa 2014 and 2016), and has won numerous local and international awards.
The university aims to become the leading university in Africa known for being a trendsetter in higher education and applied research internationally. The Department of Land and Property Sciences (DLPS) at NUST together with the Integrated Land Management Institute (ILMI) are playing a leading role in research and outreach in the field of land governance and administration.
NUST with partner universities has also developed the Research and Capacity Development Strategy for Land Governance Innovation in Southern Africa closely aligned to major African and International Initiatives.
