Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security (VGGTs) from a Gender Perspective

gender_pubGender equality is one of the 10 implementation principles, and gender is a cross-cutting issue in the VGGT. The guidelines recognize equality between individuals and explicitly highlight women’s and girls’ equal tenure rights in comparison to those of men . Hence, they recognize gender equality and the human right to non-discrimination as they recognize “the inherent dignity and the equal and inalienable human rights of all individuals” .  Further, the VGGT promote “taking positive action, including empowerment, in order to promote equitable  tenure rights and access to land, fisheries and forests, for all, women and men within the national context”
