The Land Policy Initiative (LPI) is a joint initiative of the African Union Commission, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, and the African Development Bank. The LPI will host a biennial Conference on Land Policy in Africa, which will be a policy and learning event. Its goal will be to deepen capacity for land policy in Africa through improved access to knowledge and information on land policymaking and implementation.
The inaugural Conference will be co-hosted by the LPI and the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) from 11 to 14 November 2014, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The inaugural Conference of November 2014 will be held under the theme: “The next decade of land policy in Africa: ensuring agricultural development and inclusive growth”. This theme was selected in support of the declaration of 2014 by the African Union as the “Year of Agriculture and Food Security in Africa”. The format of the Conference will include plenary and parallel sessions, side events, exhibitions, and the use of social media in order to reach a broader audience, including youth.
