Johannesburg, South Africa
This report summarises the proceedings of the Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on “The Continuum of Land Rights: Reviewing the concept and investigating the evidence in selected sites in Southern Africa”, held from 9 to 11 October 2013, in Johannesburg, South Africa. Organised by the Global Land Tool Network (GLTN) Secretariat based in UN‐Habitat, Nairobi, Kenya, in collaboration with Urban LandMark, a Southern African GLTN partner, the EGM assembled 20 international professionals, academics, researchers and practitioners. The purpose of the meeting was to bring together GLTN Secretariat, GLTN partners, international and local experts and implementers, to review the continuum of land rights, with specific reference to the research in five Southern African countries. The experts learnt from and provided feedback to the research findings, explored the evidence of the continuum in practice in Southern Africa, assessed implications of the review and research findings for GLTN and made recommendations on the way forward.
