Stronger women stronger cities: UN-Habitat’s action for change 2020 – 2025
This publication presents a summary of UN-Habitat’s gender equality impact over the past five years, in line with the Beijing reporting cycle.
These reports are part of a collaborative project by Global Land Tool Network (GLTN) under the Global Land Indicators Initiative (GLII) and the Data Analytics Unit of UN-Habitat aimed to strengthen national statistical systems to measure, monitor and report on progress in the implementation of the land-related SDGs indicators in four pilot countries: Kenya, Rwanda, Tunisia and Iraq. The Kenya report not only provides useful information on availability of official data for measuring and reporting on SDG indicators 1.4.2 and 5.a.1 but also preliminary analysis of the existing data to assess land ownership dynamics. Overall, there exists relevant survey and administrative data and information within the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) and other national data agencies and ministries that can provide insights to the status of land ownership and tenure security in the country. Relevant national surveys conducted regularly by KNBS that were examined include inter alia, the Kenya Demographic and Health Survey (KDHS), the Kenya Integrated Household Budget Survey (KIHBS), and the Kenya Continuous Household Budget Survey (KCHBS). The Rwanda report provides useful information on data availability for measuring these 2 indicators but also preliminary analysis of existing data to assess land ownership in Rwanda. Overall, there exists data and information within the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR), the Rwanda Land Management and Use Authority (RLMUA), the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI) and other data agencies and ministries needed to provide insights to the status of land tenure security in the country. In addition to administrative data from the RLMUA, relevant surveys include the Integrated Household Living Conditions Surveys, the Demographic and Health Survey, the Agricultural Household Survey and the Seasonal Agriculture Survey that are conducted on a regular basis in the country. The Iraq report will be published once available.
