NRC: Land Conflict and Food Security in the Liberian-Ivoirian Border Region

lc_liivThis report is the fifth in a series published by the NRC about housing, land and property rights, land tenure and land conflict in Liberia. It considers land tenure and land conflict from a Liberia/Côte d’Ivoire cross-border perspective, within the context of the forced displacement caused by the 2010 post-election crisis. Since 2006, NRC’s Information, Counseling and Legal Assistance (ICLA) project has assisted individuals and communities in Liberia to resolve land disputes resulting from the 1989–2003 civil conflict. The NRC undertakes similar land tenure and land conflict work in Côte d’Ivoire.

Supporting local communities, stakeholders and institutions to prevent, manage and resolve land conflict is a key objective of the NRC’s work in Liberia and Côte d’Ivoire. The intention of this series is to provide original research and analysis that supports the efforts of the Government of Liberia, civil society organisations and individuals to protect and promote housing, land and property rights and security of tenure in Liberia and other post-conflict settings.
